Endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) is a minimally invasive technique used to obtain tissue samples from deep-seated lesions for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It is performed using fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or fine-needle biopsy (FNB), providing a high level of accuracy in evaluating pancreatic, gastrointestinal, mediastinal, and other abdominal lesions.
Procedure
EUS-TA combines the imaging capabilities of EUS with needle-guided sampling. The procedure involves:
FNA: Primarily used to aspirate fluid or cellular material for cytological analysis.
FNB: Uses specialized needles to obtain core tissue samples for histopathological evaluation.
